Five Valleys Walk 2024

  • When: Sunday 29 September 2024 - 7.15am - 17.30pm
  • Where: Stroud, Gloucestershire

Our flagship 21 mile Five Valleys Walk takes place on Sunday 29th September in Stroud. This fun filled annual event has been running for over 30 years, and is organised and run entirely by Meningitis Now.

We need lots of volunteers to help make it a great day! In the past our volunteers have come from far and wide to join us for this iconic walk.

You can help us:
- Set up
- Run one of the eight checkpoints
- Help pre-registered walkers or register walkers on the day

This walk takes place in stunning scenery, and you'll be joining a warm and friendly team for a really great day out!

We need volunteers to do either a morning shift, an afternoon shift or the full day.
Three shift times available for volunteers:
- Morning shift – 07:15 – 12:45
- Afternoon shift – 12:30 – 18:00
- All-day shift – 07:15 – 18:00

If you are available to help on the day or would like more information about the event, please contact our volunteer team.

Support our CEO Tom Nutt at the Swansea Half Marathon 2024

  • When: Sunday 9 June 2024
  • Where: Swansea

Tom Nutt, our CEO, is going to be running the Swansea Half Marathon on the 9 June and is hoping to get a group together to run with him. And if you're not a runner, we'd still love you to come along to cheer and support us on the day. Either way we'd absolutely love to see you!

If you do decide to run you don’t have to commit to fundraising, but anything you can do to raise funds for Meningitis Now would be brilliant. Meningitis Now will supply you with kit and anything you need to help your fundraising.  If you haven’t signed up to run, you still can here.

Let us know if you'd like to come along and join a really friendly group for a fantastic day. It will be even better if you can persuade your friends and colleagues to join you. The more the merrier!

Contact us at volunteering@meningitisnow.org if you’re interested and would like more information.

Awareness raising opportunities

Can you run an awareness stand at New City College?
Would you be willing to run a 30 minute awareness stand at any of the New City College campuses below?

It would be a huge help for us to have a representative go along to talk to students and hand out our materials. If you are interested in helping at any of the following locations, please let us know and we can liaise with the college to arrange a suitable date and time.

Attlee A Level Academy

Can you run an awareness stand in your local community?

Summer is fast approaching and it’s a great time to mingle with members of your community to help raise awareness. Can you research local events such as plant sales, car boot sales, school fetes and sports days and see if you can set up an awareness stand? All you need to do is arrange a table and we can provide all the materials for you to set up on the day.

If you're interested in setting up an awareness stand and would like more information, please get in touch with the volunteering team.

Can you give an awareness talk?
Talks are one of the most powerful ways you can reach a large group of people with meningitis awareness. We have an off-the-peg meningitis short awareness PowerPoint talk and we will give you lots of friendly support so you feel confident and well prepared.

  • Sixth forms and universities - You could contact your local sixth forms, colleges and universities to ask if you could give a short talk to the students.
  • In your local community Do you belong to any community groups such as Rotary groups or Women's Institutes where you can arrange to give our 20-minute PowerPoint presentation?

Will you host a collection tin?

We recently picked up a collection tin from a local builder's merchant which had £90 in. These collection tins all add up and are the easiest way to fundraise. Please will you order two collection tins to put in local businesses? The money fundraised will help fund our support and research.
